These scorpions are nocturnal and enjoy making scrapes with wood where they hide in crevices during the day to retain moisture. They use neurotoxic venom, which is fast acting and can be absorbed very quickly.

Where they're found today
They are widespread in North and West Africa and the Middle East. A. Crassicauda is a wide spread species in the UAE and has been recorded in 13 protected areas in Abu Dhabi Emirate such as Al Wathba Wetland Reserve.
Abu Dhabi’s efforts
According to Federal Law No. 24 of 1999,it is prohibited to collect them illegally. The species benefits from the conservation of natural sites.Monitoring and assessment surveys to record the presence and absence of this species are being carried out in the Emirate by EAD.
Fun facts
They are able to go months without consuming food.
They capture their prey and crush them using their pincers. Their stingers are used to inject venom into their prey which paralyses them, causing immobility and allowing the scorpion to consume it with ease.
