Abu Dhabi, 14th November 2024: The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) announced that Dolphin Energy Limited has become an official sponsor of the Agency’s flagship Abu Dhabi Mangrove Initiative (ADMI).
As part of the agreement, Dolphin Energy Limited will support ADMI’s holistic restoration efforts for a five-year period. The sponsorship will cover a comprehensive mangrove and coastal restoration programme, including scientific assessments, monitoring, and education.
By signing the ADMI pledge, Dolphin Energy Limited will become an official partner committed to the ADMI’s five key pillars of research, innovation, partnership, protection, and education.
ADMI was launched during HRH Prince William, the Prince of Wales’ landmark visit to the UAE where he met His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Office, at Jubail Mangrove Park in February 2022. To date there are 16 international and local partners.
Her Excellency Dr. Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri, Secretary General of EAD, said: “In 2022, Abu Dhabi set out ambitious plans to establish the emirate as a global hub for mangrove conservation research and innovation through the Abu Dhabi Mangrove Initiative. Every year, we are developing new partnerships as part of the initiative and today marks a significant milestone with Dolphin Energy pledging to become an official sponsor and partner for five years.”
She added: “The Abu Dhabi Mangrove Initiative partnership programme helps businesses to go beyond one-off mangrove planting initiatives, and effect a positive impact on nature, climate, and society through science-based restoration of coastal areas. I am certain that in five years’ time there will be an environmental success story to be told about the partnership with Dolphin Energy Limited and everything it has sown – and how it has all contributed to a nature positive future.”
Commenting on the collaboration further, Mr Obaid Abdulla Al Dhaheri, Chief Executive Officer of Dolphin Energy Limited said: “We are delighted to support the Abu Dhabi Mangrove Initiative and take this opportunity to build a long-term commitment that will serve this critical restoration program.”
He added: “We all need to be nature positive and our partnership with the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi shows that business must also play its part in helping develop strategies to address some of the most pressing challenges we currently face. Sponsoring the Abu Dhabi Mangrove Initiative not only complements our decarbonization strategy and stakeholder engagement program but also offers the chance to develop our relationship with the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi further and I look forward to working with them on this important initiative.”
ADMI serves as a local, regional and international hub for all elements of mangrove and blue carbon research and conservation, including restoration. The ADMI brings together international, regional and national researchers and stakeholders through regular workshops, conferences and trainings. The partnership program is open to all stakeholders and institutions wishing to make a measurable and verifiable contribution to nature- based solutions and nature restoration in the UAE and around the world.
Abu Dhabi has the largest extent of mangrove habitat in the UAE, the majority of which are found along the East coast of Abu Dhabi Emirate where it hosts approximately 176 km2 of mangroves.
